The Associate of Applied Science in Nursing program objective is to produce a graduate with the skills needed for entry into a rapidly changing profession in a technological age. The educational plan fosters the development of traditional nursing values including caring, compassion, and competency as well as the development of critical thinking and clinical judgment for safe, effective care. Emphasis is placed on an attitude of service to individuals, families, and communities for the purpose of health promotion, health maintenance, and health restoration.
Hallmark College’s nursing program of study allows the student to learn the care of the geriatric, adult, pediatric, and child-bearing patients. Students will attend classroom, skills and simulation laboratory and patient-care clinical experiences in each semester of the program. Clinical practicums are coordinated with:

Simulation and skills laboratory utilize contemporary equipment and teaching methods that allow students to participate in videotaped scenarios and debriefing exercise for optimal learning.
The competencies of the Martha Fessler School of Nursing at Hallmark College graduate nurse are based on the entry level competencies established by the Texas Board of Nursing. These competencies include knowledge, skill and ability to demonstrate the attributes of the nurse as a member of the profession, provider of patient-centered care, patient safety advocate and member of the health care team. The program of education prepares graduates as a generalist in the field of nursing, with the preparation to sit for the National Comprehensive Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN) post-graduation.

The Associate of Applied Science in Nursing program consists of 72 semester credit hours and 1952 contact hours and is 80 weeks in length. The Associate of Applied Science in Nursing is a full-time program offered during daytime school hours.
